The functions of the Information Technology Services office at the Pacific Islands Fisheries Science Center are to provide data management and technical systems support for the Science Center, JIMAR, and visiting personnel including:
- Installation, configuration, and maintenance of all computer hardware and software systems including servers, individual desktops and laptops.
- Network and communications systems; e.g.. configuration and connectivity of workstations and desktops connected to the Science Center LAN, maintaining T-1 link to the National Weather Service site located in Ewa Beach in support of CoastWatch operations, T-1 access for the Kewalo Research Facility, remote access for the SWR PIAO observer program, video conferencing capability, and internet connectivity via the both the NMFS WAN (384Kbps) and the University of Hawai'i (T-1).
- Computer and Communication systems security to ensure authorized access to Laboratory electronic data resources via a firewall system, control of access to hardware and software systems, and monitoring of system logs.
- High Technology systems for management and distribution of Oracle data and generated forms and reports, digitizing capability for video and audio.
